In March 1998 Consort Healthcare was awarded the contract to design, build and provide a range of non-clinical services for a new Dryburn Hospital.
Alongside private equity partners, Balfour Beatty Capital Projects Limited (BBCPL) invested funds and established a dedicated company, Consort Healthcare (Durham) Limited, which in turn totally focuses on the individual needs of the NHS Trust in Durham.
The original Dryburn Hospital, was made up of unsuitable, multiple buildings and replaced by the brand new, 515-bed, purpose-built University Hospital of North Durham. There is also a Trust headquarters building and staff residential accommodation on the site.
The hospital forms an integral part of the overall healthcare plan for Durham County and helps to serve a population of 600,000 people.
Working with Haden Building Management, Consort Healthcare provide the hospital with services such as catering, domestic and portering services, security and car parking, courier services, linen and sewing services and telecommunications.
The hospital was built on time and to budget against a two phase construction and fit out programme over 40 months. Consort Healthcare and the Trust jointly monitor the performance of service provision to ensure that the high standards of the contract continue to be met.
